BI Reporting Technical Lead
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced BI Reporting Technical Lead with deep expertise across leading BI platforms including Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik, and Looker.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in BI migration programs (especially to Power BI), a deep understanding of BI reporting ecosystems, and proven leadership capability in driving end-to-end modernization initiatives.
This role requires a balance of technical depth, migration strategy expertise, customer-facing communication skills, team leadership & mentorship, and execution ownership with delivery commitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead large-scale BI migration initiatives (Tableau/Cognos/MicroStrategy/Qlik/Looker → Power BI).
- Analyze legacy semantic layers, metadata, calculations, dashboards, and data models.
- Design target-state Power BI architecture (datasets, dataflows, semantic models, RLS, deployment pipelines).
- Define migration strategies (rebuild vs. automate vs. hybrid approach).
- Ensure high automation feasibility using accelerators where applicable.
- Architect scalable BI reporting ecosystems aligned to enterprise data platforms (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, SAP, etc.).
- Design and implement data models (star/snowflake schema), DAX optimization strategies, performance tuning, row-level security, and incremental refresh.
- Perform hands-on development for complex dashboards and proof-of-concepts.
- Troubleshoot complex performance and transformation issues.
- Act as primary technical SPOC for BI modernization programs.
- Lead technical workshops, discovery sessions, and solution walkthroughs.
- Provide effort estimates, solution recommendations, and risk assessments.
- Translate business requirements into technical execution plans.
- Handle executive-level and stakeholder communications effectively.
- Lead and mentor BI developers (junior & mid-level).
- Conduct design reviews and code reviews.
- Define best practices and governance frameworks.
- Establish reporting standards, naming conventions, and deployment strategies.
- Own delivery timelines and quality benchmarks.
- Ensure migration accuracy and validation processes.
- Manage backlog, sprint planning, and milestone tracking.
